Thanks to Hiro's sharp eyes, a bug was found in the DAQ spool manager
program. Among many things, this program deletes old data files
from the DAQ spool. The effect of the bug was that
files that were sent to HPSS were never deleted and files that were
NOT sent to HPSS were deleted prematurely.
