How to Get Data in DLT Tape to Take to Home Institution.

Find out which files you want to take. To see the list
of data files, see Brahms
Run Trigger Summary Page.

Find out whether files are located in the data disks. (/brahms/data01,
/brahms/data02 and /brahms/data03)

If you do not find your desired files in #2, download the
files from HPSS. To request to HPSS, see the Brahms
HPSS How to Pages.

Now, you are ready to go to the room with DLT drive.

If you can stand the slow speed and you have no car, go to
the RHIC Computer User room where the DLT drive is located. Room
# is I-240. The DLT tape drive is located in the right side of the
room. Also, do not forget to take tape with you. Ask
Betty for a tape.

If you crave for the speed, go the BRAHMS counting house.
It is located in the small room in the right side of the building.

Insert your tape in the drive.

Log on to this computer.

If you are in the RHIC User room. The User name is
"brahexp". Ask Password to Betty or Flemming.

If you are in the BRAHMS counting house, log on to OPUS as
operator. You should know this password.

Tar your files to Tape drive. An Example is shown
below.

In the RHIC User room, if you want to copy "/brahms/data01/data/raw/run002236*.dat"
to the tape, move to that directory by typing "cd /brahms/data01/data/raw".
Then, type "tar cvf /dev/st0 run002236*.dat".

In the BRAHMS counting house, if you want to copy "/remote/data01/data/raw/run002236*.dat"
to the tape, move to that directory by typing "cd /remote/data01/data/raw/run002236*.dat".
Then, type "tar cvf /dev/tld1 run002236*.dat" or "tar cvf /dev/tld2 run002236*.dat".

Wait for a couple seconds. Make sure "Tape in Use"
and "Compress" indicator light is on. Also, look at the screen to
see if your files are accessed.

Estimated time to copy

In the RHIC User room, it will take about 7 hour to copy
full disk. Come back in 7 hours!!!

In the BRAHMS counting room, it will take about 2 hour to
copy full disk.
